Ingredients
2 tsp all-purpose flour
1 puff pastry sheet, thawed
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tsp dried oregano
1 ½ cups (150g) of Fromagerie L’Ancêtre extra old cheddar (2-year-old), shredded
4 slices of prosciutto
1 egg, beaten
2 tbsp sesame seeds
2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
Store-bought marinara sauce, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and position the rack in the middle. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the parchment paper on the counter. Lightly dust it with 2 tsp of flour. Roll out the thawed puff pastry dough into a 15 x 10 inches rectangle. Replace the rolled-out dough along with the parchment paper onto the baking sheet.
- Evenly spread 2 tbsp tomato paste onto the puff pastry and sprinkle 2 tsp dried oregano all over. Add 1 ½ cup extra old cheddar cheese and lightly press it into the pastry.
- Lay 4 slices of prosciutto evenly over the bottom half of the pastry. Fold the top half over the prosciutto and press down lightly to seal.
- Cut the folded pastry into 1-inch-wide strips. Carefully twist each strip 3-4 times and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the twists with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until puffed and golden.
- Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley before serving. Pair the twists with marinara sauce for dipping.
Make-Ahead Preparation
You can prepare the twists in advance by following all steps up to the baking point. Once formed, place them in the refrigerator, covered with plastic wrap to store. When ready to bake, remove them from the fridge and let them rest at room temperature for a few minutes. Then, brush with egg before baking. This helps save time while keeping them crispy and golden!
