Because meatballs are ALWAYS a crowd-pleaser! Here, it’s a guaranteed hit – my daughter LOVES this slightly sweet sauce made with honey, soy sauce, and lime juice.
The meatballs? We make them with ground pork and bake them in the oven. On the side, a pearl couscous with veggies… also a great way to use up those tired vegetables hanging out in your fridge!

Ingredients

  • Meatballs
  • 454 g ground pork

  • 1 egg

  • ¾ cup Italian breadcrumbs

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 yellow onion, grated

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp fish sauce

  • Cooking spray oil

  • Sauce
  • ¼ cup soy sauce

  • ¼ cup honey

  • Juice of 1 lime

  • 2 tbsp water

  • 1 tsp cornstarch

  • White sesame seeds for garnish

  • Pearl Couscous
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 small zucchini, diced

  • 2 green onions, sliced

  • 1 cup dry pearl couscous

  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth

  • 1 carrot, grated

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F and place the rack in the middle position.
  • Prepare the meatballs: In a large bowl, mix 454 g ground pork, 1 egg, ¾ cup Italian breadcrumbs, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 grated yellow onion, 2 tbsp soy sauce, and 1 tbsp fish sauce.
  • Shape about 25 meatballs from the mixture.
  • Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and lightly spray with oil.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, until golden brown and fully cooked.
  • Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup soy sauce, ¼ cup honey, juice of 1 lime, 2 tbsp water, and 1 tsp cornstarch. Set aside.
  • Cook the pearl couscous: In a saucepan over medium heat, sauté 2 tbsp olive oil with 1 diced zucchini and 2 sliced green onions. Season with salt and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add 1 cup dry pearl couscous and 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 12 minutes, until the liquid is almost absorbed. Stir in 1 grated carrot at the end of cooking.
  • Finish the sauce: In a pan over medium heat, pour in the sauce mixture and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring until slightly thickened.
  • Add the cooked meatballs to the pan and toss to coat them evenly in the sauce.
  • Serve the meatballs over the pearl couscous and garnish with white sesame seeds.
