This asparagus pizza bianca is light, fresh and calls for spring! It features a white sauce made out of ricotta, feta and garlic, topped with asparagus ribbons and pine nuts.
Ingredients You’ll Need to Make This Asparagus Pizza
- Pizza dough: either homemade or store bought. There’s nothing like a homemade pizza and if you have time to make pizza dough, please try my recipe below.
- Ricotta cheese: Salt content may differ for one brand to another. Season to your preference.
- Feta: to add more flavor and saltiness to the white sauce.
- Garlic: 2 garlic cloves minced that we will be adding to the sauce.
- Asparagus: use a vegetable peeler to make asparagus ribbons.
- Pine nuts: for a crunchy topping.
- Lemon zest: for acidity.
- Spicy oil (optional): I simply love to put spicy oil on a pizza.
How to Make Asparagus Pizza?
- First, prepare the pizza dough. Combine pizza yeast, sugar and lukewarm water in a small bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes. Mix the flour and salt together. Combine the water mixture to the flour and mix well with a wooden spoon. When the dough starts to form, use your hands and knead for a couple of minutes. Transfer to a lightly oiled bowl and let it rise for 1 to 2 hours.
- Get the sauce and toppings ready. Mix ricotta, feta and garlic in a small bowl. This will be the sauce for the pizza. Drizzle olive oil on the asparagus ribbons and coat well.
- Prepare the pizza by making sure you extend the dough. Add the sauce and toppings.
- Cook the pizza in the oven at a high temperature.
- Garnish with lemon zest and spicy oil (optional).
Few Notes on Baking Homemade Pizza
- Cooking time may vary from an oven to another. Please make sure you keep an eye on the pizza while it cooks.
- Pizza stone vs baking pan. The pizza stone allows the pizza to cook fast and uniformly. This will make a difference on the texture and the crust. You can use a baking pan if you don’t have a pizza stone. The cooking time will differ.
- Cook on the middle rack. If using a pizza stone, place on the rack while the oven warms up.
- Finish on broil for a grilled effect (depending on your preference).
How to Make Spicy Oil?
If you’re a fan of spicy oil as well, here is an easy way to make it. Combine ½ cup of neutral oil with 1 tablespoon of red pepper flakes. Cook in a small saucepan for 5 minutes, stirring every minute or so. Drizzle over pizza if desired.
