Ingredients
Neutral oil (vegetable oil, avocado oil, etc.) for cooking
5-6 wonton sheets, defrosted
1 ahi tuna steak (+/- 250g)
¼ cup of raw white sesame seeds
2 tbsp of mayonnaise
½ tbsp of soy sauce
½ tbsp of sesame oil
½ tbsp of maple syrup
Black lumpfish roe (lumpfish caviar)*, to garnish
Green onions, to garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400F and place the grill in the middle.
- Cut each wonton into 4 equal pieces and place on a baking pan with parchment paper.
- Brush each wonton piece with neutral oil on both sides.
- Cook in the oven for 7-9 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Pour the sesame seeds on a plate and dip the tuna steak on each side in order to create a sesame crust.
- In a pan over medium heat, heat a bit of neutral oil and cook the tuna steak for 1-2 minutes each side.
- Reserve on a plate for 5 minutes, then cut into slices. Cut each slice into 1 inch or the similar size of the wonton chips.
- Prepare the sauce by combining the mayonnaise, soy sauce, sesame oil and maple syrup.
- When ready to serve, spread the sauce on each wonton chip and place the tuna pieces on top of it. Garnish with fish eggs and green onions.
Notes
- Lumpfish roe: often cheaper than caviar, it has a taste of the sea and a salty taste. Caviar is made of sturgeon. Lumpfish eggs come from a fish from the North Atlantic and the Baltic Sea, the lumpfish. It is easily found in grocery stores or fish stores.
