Dulce de Leche With Only 1 Ingredient

I tried a lot of different recipes, but I ended up going with this technique I found on Pinterest.

Homemade Dulce de Leche, Only 1 Ingredient

Sweetened condensed milk. Impossible to miss, we only let the can sit in boiling water for 3 hours.

Easy Steps to Follow:

  • Use a large pot filled with water, making sure the can is covered.
  • Keep the can closed while boiling.
  • Check every hour, adding water if necessary.
  • Remove from boiling water after 3 hours and run cold water on it.
  • Open it and mix the content with a spoon.
  • Transfer it into a mason jar or airtight container.

Difference Between Dulce de Leche and Caramel

They’re pretty similar when you compare their texture and colour. Dulce de Leche is thicker tough. It’s made with condensed milk, milk or cream with sugar, while caramel is made with water and sugar.

How to Store It?

Place it in a mason jar or a container in the fridge, up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze it easily, up to 3 months.

How to Use Dulce de Leche?

  • On top of homemade popcorn.
  • For a fruits fondue, to replace chocolate.
  • On top of vanilla ice cream to make a Sundae.
  • On a toast in the morning.
  • On top of muffins or cakes. Try it on my Dulce de Leche cake.
  • On pancakes or waffles.
