Homemade Oat Milk (Easy & 3 Ingredients)

Homemade Oat milk is so easy to make. You just need 3 ingredients, one blender and a milk bag. You‘ll get a creamy milk, perfect to use in your smoothies, granola, cereal, matcha, baked foods, and more!

Homemade Oat Milk (Easy & 3 Ingredients)

3 Ingredients

  1. Rolled Oats: These types of oats work best for making oat milk. We tried using steel-cut oats and the oat milk wasn’t as creamy as with rolled ones.
  2. Water: basic liquid we add to our oats.
  3. Vanilla extract: we love to add it for more flavours, but this ingredient is optional.

How to Make Oat Milk

Blending

  • First, we place oats, water and vanilla into a high spend blender. Blend these ingredients for 30–45 seconds. Make sure you don’t blend them too much … over blending will make the oats slimy.

Straining

  • Using a big bowl and a milk bag, we pour the mixture into the milk bag.
  • We use our hands to drain the oats and make sure we get that creamy milk out of it.

Pouring

  • We put back the milk into the blender (rinse the blender beforehand). That way, it will be much easier to pour into a jar or container.
  • Keep the homemade oat milk into the fridge.

What’s the Ratio?

We recommend doing a 1 to 4 ratio. So, 1 cup of oats for 4 cups of water. That will make 1 L of oat milk.

What to Do If You Don’t Have a Milk Bag?

If you want to buy one, here’s the one we purchased at Amazon (link).

You can also use a superfine weave, like a kitchen towel, t-shirt, or bandana. Choose something you don’t longer need, because the food you’re straining can permanently stain the fabric.

Flavoured Oat Milk

We’ve already added some vanilla to the mix. But you can also add any sweetener, such as maple syrup or honey. For the spices, cinnamon or even cacao powder will work well. Just add it at the end after straining and blend it for a few more seconds.

How Long Does Oat Milk Last In The Fridge?

It will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can also freeze it! Just pour the oat milk into an ice cube tray. That way, it will be super easy to add it to your favourite smoothie.

Oat Milk Pulp … What Can You Do With It?

  • In a recipe: Add it to a cookie or muffin recipe. You just add it on top of the ingredients in the recipe. Try my Almond Butter and Oats Cookies
  • To make an exfoliant: Combine oat milk pulp with 3x less honey. For example, 3 tablespoons of oat milk pulp with 1 tablespoon of honey. You can also add coconut oil as well.
