Sesame Pan-Fried Feta

Why You’ll Love This Recipe:

  • New way to cook feta cheese, we often use it in salads or crumbled in different dishes. Here, feta is the star of this recipe.
  • Sweet & savory taste, feta and honey complement each other so well!
  • Texture! Hot melted feta served with pita crackers for a crunchy bite.
  • Easy to prepare. You can prepare the feta sesame crust ahead of time so that you’ll only have to cook it 10 minutes before serving.

How to Make Pan-Fried Feta?

  1. First, remove any excess of water from the feta block with paper towels.
  2. Prepare the sesame crust. You’ll need 3 plates. One with flour, another one with a beaten egg and the last one with sesame seeds. Dip the feta in each plate to create a beautiful crust and make sure to coat well.
  3. Cook in a non-stick pan on medium-high heat. You want to get a nice crust on each side, as well as soft feta cheese inside.
  4. Drizzle with honey and garnish with fresh figs. You can also add fresh herbs.

Tips to Perfect The Recipe

  • Thickness: use a 3/4-1 inch width feta block. Make sure it’s not too thick. You can also cut the feta block into 2 pieces. It will be easier to cook and will help to come up with soften cheese inside.
  • Crispy on the outside but soft in the middle: we want the feta to be crispy on the ou soft in the middle. For the crip, use a non-stick cooking pan and make sure you cook the feta with a good amount of oil. I recommend to cover the pan with a lid for a few minutes, after you’ve pan fried the feta. You can also microwave the feta after cooking it, if you realize it’s not soft enough
  • Good amount of honey: be generous and use quality honey.

I’m not able to find fresh figs, what can I do?

  • Serve without figs, only with honey.
  • Serve with another fruit, like sliced peaches.
  • Use dried figs instead, cut into cubes.

It’s the kind of appetizer you want to place in the middle of the table, so that everyone can dig in. I recommend eating it with some pita chips or grilled bread.

This sesame pan-fried feta is the appetizer you’ll want to serve on Friday night, accompanied by a good cocktail or glass of wine! Feta is coated in sesame seeds to create a beautiful crust when pan-fried. Finish it with a good amount of honey and fresh figs for a perfect sweet and savoury dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 feta block, 1 inch width*

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tbsp of all purpose flour

  • 4 tbsp of white sesame seeds

  • ¼ cup of olive oil

  • 2-3 fresh figs sliced

  • 2-3 tbsp of quality honey

  • Serve it with: pita chips or grilled bread

Instructions

  • Remove feta from packaging. With a paper towel, dry the feta to remove any excess of water. Make sure the feta is 3/4-1 inch width (you can cut in half in needed).
  • Prepare the sesame crust. Beat the egg in a large bowl. Add flour to a plate and sesame seeds to another plate. Dip the feta block into the flour and coat well. Dip into beaten egg and then into the sesame seeds. You want to make sure the feta block is well coated on each side.
  • Add olive oil to a non-stick pan on medium-high heat. Cook the feta for 3-4 minutes on each side to get a nice crust. Make sure the feta is cooked through (soft inside). To do so, put a lid on the pan for a couple of minutes.
  • Remove from the pan and serve on a plate. Drizzle with honey and garnish with fresh figs.

Notes

  • You can use a rectangular or circular feta block. Make sure the feta block is about 3/4-1 inch width. If it’s not the case, I suggest you cut the feta block into 2 blocks.
