How to Make Almond Butter? (1 Ingredient, Food Processor)

Homemade almond butter is easier than you think. You just need some almonds and a food processor, that’s all! Here’s how to make it step by step and some tips to make sure you end up with a (very) creamy almond butter.

How to Make Almond Butter? (1 Ingredient, Food Processor)

Only One Ingredient

There’s no almond butter without almonds, of course! And here, we’ll only use almonds … no oil or anything else. If you like sweet almond butter, feel free to add some maple syrup or honey at the end. You can also add some cinnamon!

Use a Food Processor

You need good equipment to make it. A food processor will blend evenly the almonds. You can also use a Vitamix if you have one. Making it in Vitamix will take less time (1–2 minutes) than a food processor (5–6 minutes). There’s no difference in the taste, though.

Homemade is More Affordable

The cost of almond butter is around $9 for 250 g. In this recipe, you’ll need 3 cups of natural almonds which cost me about $7 at a bulk grocery. You’ll end up with 1 ½ cup of homemade almond butter, so +/- 300 g.

How to Make Almond Butter

  1. Roast your almonds. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake for 10 minutes, turning halfway.
  2. Let the almonds rest for about 10–15 minutes. You don’t want your almonds to be too hot.
  3. Add the roasted almonds to the food processor and blend for about 1–2 minutes. With a spatula, scrape down the almond mixture. Repeat a few times. Be patient, when you think it doesn’t not work, keep doing it and you’ll be surprised.
  4. Store it in a jar and keep it in the fridge.

5 Tips to Perfect this Recipe

  1. Patience is key! It may take some time, but you’ll get a creamy almond butter. I promise. Just continue to blend it until you get a nice texture.
  2. Store it in a jar: it’ll be well conserved in the fridge for up to 1 month.
  3. Roast your almonds: it makes a huge difference in the taste!
  4. Don’t reduce the quantity of almonds: you need a minimum amount in the food processor to make sure it blends well.
  5. Use natural almonds: don’t use pre-roasted almonds or salty almonds. Natural ones work best.
